Shoot
1.6 is a great (free)
Voice Recognition program. Visit the site and try it out..
A
good but complex
Shoot1.6
profile for IL2-FB+AEP+PF . (<--Right
Click and SAVE LINK AS) You can use Notepad or Wordpad to edit the
xml file and change all instances of YOURNAMEHERE to your own handle.
Also,
you can setup a shortcut to shoot-1.6 whose Properties/Target would
automatically launch your specific profile of choice (instead of
having to load it upon launching the application). This can be done
by updating the Properites/Target of the shortcut to say:
"<appropriate
path to executable>\shoot.exe" profiles\<profile name.xml>
An
excellent immersion tool is TrackIR (prounounced "Tracker").
I have a newer TrackIR4 and an older TrackIR2. Basically, it has
a deadband in the middle. As always, it is important to have on
your joystick a switch (like on the hat that you used to use for
your views) that centers the TrackIR view instantaneously.
TrackIR4
profile. (<--Right
Click and SAVE LINK AS) Drop
it in C:\Program Files\Naturalpoint\TrackIR (or TrackIR4 if you
have other versions), then once you launch the software, select
the Profiles tab and select from the "Available profiles"
Combat_Flight-Ian_Custom.xml. Also select the "Exclusive-load"
checkbox. Then, try it out using the View menu. I mounted my Vector
Expansion "antlers" on top of the headset (I hate wearing
ballcaps, especially in the summer) with a couple of twist ties.
TrackIR2
profile. (<--Right
Click and SAVE LINK AS) Drop
it in C:\Program Files\Naturalpoint\TrackIR (or TrackIR2 if you
have other versions), then once you launch the software, select
the Profiles tab and "Select a profile to Auto-Load" and
select the game IL-2 Forgotten Battles. Note that you may need to
change on the Tracking tab the "Preferred Object Size (pixels)"
to match what you typically experience. I have created a custom
sized "dot" using reflective tape that is significantly
larger than the standard dot (basically, it's half a ping pong ball
covered with the special tape that is mounted to the front of the
microphone on my inexpensive ($5?) Radio Shack headset). What worked
even better was when II mounted a chopstick to the top of the headset
pointing forward. Impaled on the end of the chopstick is a foam
ball about 2 inches (5 cm) in diameter. Most of the ball has the
reflective tape wrapped around it. (NOTE: your significant other
WILL tease you about this, but at least it stays with the headset).
UPDATE:
I now have a Logitech Premium USB Headset 300, which allows me to
put the voice channel through the headset only (for Teamspeak and
Ventrilo) while the game sounds come through my five speakers (very
immersive!). My Push-To-Talk button for comms is a main button (e.g.,
X-52 setup is button C) while my Voice Activated Commands button
is the pinky shift of that same button.
My
Saitek X-52 joystick has a good profile (spent a lot of time at
it). X-52
profile for IL2-FB+AEP+PF+Sturmovik 1946. (<--UPDATED
2007-Sept-05) Unzip/extract the files to the C:\Program Files\Saitek\Software
directory. Key features are: One shift button engine start for 1
or more engines (hold the button down longer and the macro starts
them sequentially, then maps ALL engines to throttle, then turns
on the cockpit llight), flaps on the slider, twist is for mixture
control (I have rudder pedals for rudder control).A NEW SPREADSHEET
MATRIX (MS Excel format) shows the layout as well as gives notes
and comments as to WHY things were setup in a particular way). Note
that this will require some re-mapping of keys in game to get it
to play nicely together.
My
Saitek X-45 joystick (courtesy of squadmate Toucan) has a pretty
good profile, too (spent a lot of time at it). X-45
profile for IL2-FB+AEP+PF. (<--Right
Click and SAVE LINK AS) I'll
try to upload an excel spreadsheet that better documents the features
later. Note that this will require some re-mapping of keys in game
to get it to play nicely together.
P51
cockpit link (picture I took at a museum in Las Cruces,
New Mexico last summer).
P-38L
Camo Skins Link. The gleaming silver (default) skin for
the P-38L made sneaking in for a mudmoving sortie nearly impossible.
So, I decided to do something about it (this only works if skin
download is for the host of the game you are in). This zip archive
includes two summer (US and Non US) and one winter (US only) skins
for the P-38L and P38L_Late. Although the template wasn't mine,
the camo and extra details on the final bitmaps are--it was a pain
in the rear! (but I like the finished product). I did try to preserve
the essence of a historical skin, however. Download the file by
doing a Right Click-->Save As, extract the archive, then follow
the simple instructions in the Readme.txt file. Enjoy!
